Ceramides

Ceramides are naturally occurring lipids that make up over 50% of the skin’s outer layer. Often derived from plants or synthetically produced, ceramides are essential for maintaining the skin barrier and retaining moisture.

In dermatology, ceramides are commonly found in moisturisers and barrier repair creams. They replenish the skin’s natural lipids, helping to restore and strengthen a compromised barrier. Ceramide-rich products are particularly beneficial for those with dry, sensitive, or eczema-prone skin.

The benefits of ceramides include enhanced hydration, reduced sensitivity, and improved skin resilience. By sealing in moisture, they leave the skin feeling soft and supple while protecting it from environmental aggressors. Their non-irritating nature makes them suitable for all skin types.
