Spicules

What they are

Spicules are microscopic needle-like structures, often derived from marine organisms or synthetic sources. They are used in skincare to create controlled micro-channels within the skin.

How they work in skincare

When applied topically, spicules penetrate the upper layers of the skin, increasing cell turnover and enhancing penetration of active ingredients. This creates a resurfacing effect similar in concept to microneedling but delivered through a topical product.

Spicules can improve texture and brightness, but they are not a daily-use ingredient and should not be layered with other aggressive actives. Used too frequently or incorrectly, they may compromise the skin barrier. Spicules are best suited to short treatment courses or professionally guided routines rather than long-term, unsupervised use.
