Naturally derived ingredients

Naturally derived ingredients are those sourced from plants, minerals, or other natural origins and then processed for use in skincare. They are often chosen for their gentle, effective properties and their alignment with sustainable and eco-conscious beauty. Common examples include aloe vera, shea butter, coconut oil, and botanical extracts.

These ingredients are popular for their ability to nourish the skin while offering a more holistic approach to skincare. Many naturally derived ingredients contain vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that help to protect and restore the skin, promoting a healthy, radiant complexion.

While “natural” is often assumed to be better for the skin, or a more ‘clean’ ingredient, it’s important to note that even naturally derived ingredients undergo processing to ensure stability, safety, and effectiveness. For example, plant oils may be cold-pressed or refined, and certain botanical extracts are carefully distilled to preserve their beneficial properties.

When choosing skincare products, looking for high-quality, responsibly sourced naturally derived ingredients can make a difference, both in terms of skin health and environmental impact. ‘Clean’ ingredients aren’t necessarily naturally derived, and vice versa. Also, naturally derived ingredients aren’t always what they seem – the trend in beef tallow being an example of that!
