What is Morpheus8?
Contents
Over the past year, we have seen our skin in ways we never thought we would. Details that once went unnoticed fell under the glare of the Zoom camera. No angle has been left free from scrutiny. That combined with the stress of the last year it’s no wonder so many of us are feeling in need of a pick me up.
In my monthly journal, I’ll give you the inside track on some of the most popular treatments that I perform in my clinic every day to help clients feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and skin confident. This month’s ‘tweakment’ under the spotlight is Morpheus8.
What is Morpheus8?
Morpheus8 is a machine-based treatment that marries two of the most effective technologies for boosting collagen production; microneedling and radiofrequency.
Microneedling creates a micro-trauma within the dermis, stimulating the healing response, whilst radiofrequency utilises heat energy to induce skin tightening.
Morpheus8 stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, resulting in firmer, smoother skin. This combination of modalities provides quicker results than microneedling and radiofrequency on their own.
What is Morpheus8 used for?
Morpheus8 can be used on the face, neck and body for skin tightening and also contouring. It can also be used to treat acne scarring. Skin will appear tighter, healthier and more youthful alongside an improvement in texture, fine lines and wrinkles as well as pores.
What to expect during a Morpheus8 treatment
First, a topical numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes. After the area is numbed, the tip of the handpiece is applied to the skin and the needles penetrate at a programmed depth and energy. This delivers focused and controlled pulses of radiofrequency heat energy. Application of the handpiece is continued in a grid-like pattern across the entire treated area.
Morpheus8 is a highly customisable treatment. Needle depth is adjusted depending on the area being treated and desired results. More superficial depths offer improvement in skin texture whereas deeper penetration works to remodel, contour and lift.
How long does Morpheus8 treatment take?
Morpheus8 takes between 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the treated area.
Downtime as a result of Morpheus8 treatment
The skin may appear slightly swollen and red immediately following treatment with Morpheus8. This typically settles down within 24 hours. Small scabs may become visible on the skin several days after the procedure and last for up to one week. An emollient product will be provided to you for application twice daily while you heal. Mineral SPF and makeup are advised during the healing period and can be started 48 hours after treatment.
It is important to avoid intense sun exposure 4 weeks prior and 2 weeks following treatment with Morpheus8.
How quickly will you see results and how long does Morpheus8 last?
The recommended treatment course is three sessions of Morpheus8, four to six weeks apart. An improvement in glow and texture may be seen several days following treatment, but a tightening and smoothing effect typically becomes apparent after several weeks and will continue to improve over 3 months. Results are long-lasting, up to several years, with some patients opting to do an annual treatment for maintenance.
When do I recommend Morpheus8?
Morpheus8 is an effective treatment to help reverse early signs of ageing, such as jowling and sagging, uneven texture, fine lines and deeper wrinkles. It is a safe procedure that is suitable for all skin types. The ideal candidate is someone who wants to restore youthfulness and improve skin laxity without surgery or prolonged downtime.
