Keratosis Pilaris

What it is

Keratosis pilaris (KP) is a common, harmless skin condition that causes small, rough bumps, typically on the upper arms, thighs, or buttocks. KP occurs when keratin, a protein that protects the skin, builds up and blocks hair follicles. This results in a bumpy, sandpaper-like texture, often referred to as “chicken” or “strawberry” skin.

How To Treat Keratosis Pilaris With Skincare

Exfoliation: Regular use of chemical exfoliants such as lactic acid, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid helps dissolve keratin build-up.
Hydration: Moisturisers with urea, ceramides and hyaluronic acid improve skin texture and prevent further dryness.
Gentle Cleansing: Avoiding harsh soaps and using fragrance-free cleansers reduces irritation.
Consistent Care: KP tends to be stubborn, so long-term management with a gentle but effective routine is key.

While KP is harmless, regular exfoliation and hydration can help smooth the skin and reduce its appearance over time.
