What It Is
Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of certain areas of skin due to excess melanin production. Hyperpigmentation can occur anywhere on the body, including the face, hands and shoulders, manifesting as dark spots or patches, often after inflammation, injury and sun exposure.
Treatment
Brightening agents such as vitamin C, niacinamide and kojic and tranexamic acids are effective, alongside sun protection. Chemical peels and laser treatments may help accelerate results.
