Alcohol and Skin

Alcohol and skin conditions are linked, as I have also discussed in my entry on gut health.

Excessive alcohol consumption can dehydrate the skin, making it appear dull and prone to fine lines. Alcohol is dehydrating because it acts as a diuretic, increasing urine production and causing the body to lose water and essential electrolytes.

It can also trigger conditions like rosacea or exacerbate existing inflammation. Alcohol reduces vitamin absorption, particularly vitamin A, which is crucial for skin renewal. Staying hydrated, using antioxidant-rich skincare, and moderating alcohol intake can help minimise its negative effects on the skin.
