Hydration

Hydration is essential for maintaining plump, elastic skin. Hydration in the context of dermatology refers to the skin’s water content, which may be lost due to environmental factors or dehydration. Adequate skin hydration ensures cells are well-hydrated and functioning optimally. This is typically achieved using humectants such as  glycerin or hyaluronic acid, which attract water to the skin. Moisturising focuses on maintaining that hydration by reinforcing the skin’s barrier and preventing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Drinking plenty of water and using hydrating serums and moisturisers work together to combat dryness, dullness and fine lines.

While hydration adds water to the skin, moisturising locks it in, making both steps vital for achieving healthy, balanced skin.
